OUR STAR TREK PBEM STORIES: THE STRAGGLERS
Title: The Stragglers
Location: USS Victory
Setting: Transporter Room
Llewellyn poked her head in Engineering. "I hear you and I are destined for new
places," she grinned at the Assistant Engineering Chief.
Piper Chayton looked up from her packing and smiled over at the Communications
Chief. "Is there anything that gets by you, Sparky?"
"Not much," Llew quipped back. "It's my job, you know." Llewellyn Moreau was a
petite, blue-grey eyed woman. Short blonde hair brushed the tops of her
shoulders and didn't seem to sport a single curl. She was enthusiastic in the
way she operated and looked at life. She'd been called 'perky' on more than one
occasion.
"Uh-huh... Of course it is," Piper laughed.
"So tell me... Do you know anything about this new ship? Pandora's Box?" Llew
asked.
"She was in the Utopia when I was there," Piper answered. "I could tell you
more, but then I'd have to shoot you out an airlock."
Llew blinked. "You're kidding, right?"
"I am?" Piper grinned and closed the case she'd been placing her tools in. She
was sure they had tools on Pandora's Box, but these were hers. They fit her
hands like they were made for them, and indeed they had been. Piper was a
small woman with an energetic demeanor. She had an athletic, yet very womanly
form. Her long curly russet hair was put up and her hazel eyes sparkled and changed colors with her emotions.
Llew rolled her eyes. "So are you ready, or what?" the pert blonde asked.
"As I'll ever be," Piper nodded and reached for a small electronic part that had
fallen out of her hair, releasing a long curvy lock that fell over her shoulder.
"Just need to slap a transporter beacon on this," she added as she artfully
wound the lock of hair back up and secured it with the fallen part. "As easy as
one, two three," she secured the transporter beacon and shooed Llew out of
Engineering. "Let's not keep the Transporter Chief waiting," she told the
smaller woman. "He gets cranky if you do," she grinned.
"Oh brother," Llew rolled her eyes again. "He is, as my mama would say, une
douleur dans la derrier.. oui?"
"You know I don't speak French," Piper reminded her.
"A pain in the derrier," Llew grinned.
"Just don't let him here you say that," Piper warned her as the pair made their
way to the transporter room.
"Moi?" Llew managed to look the picture of innocence.
The transporter room was ready for the pair. The last to beam out off the
Victory.
"Ready?" the Lieutenant said.
"Indeed we are, Lieutenant," Piper nodded and stepped up on the transporter pad
along with Llewellyn.
"Au revoir, Victory," Llew said as she stepped into place.
"La revedere, Victory," Piper chimed in.
Llewellyn looked over at her with an artfully raised brow. "What was that?"
"I dated a Romanian once," Piper grinned back. "Ready Chief?" she turned her
laughing gaze onto the Transporter Chief and winked at him.
Llew rolled her eyes. "Why doesn't that surprise me?"
"Drum bun (Good trip)," he replied with an answering wink.
The transporter energized and the two officers disappeared from the Victory.
When they rematerialized they were standing in the transporter room of the
newest SI dedicated ship, Pandora's Box.
Piper looked around, her critical engineering gaze taking in every detail she
could see. "Nice..." she whispered.
"Uhm-hm..." Llew agreed, but she was looking at their welcoming party.
"Welcome to Pandora's Box," said Commander Varsahlaveu, the Executive Officer.
With him were some other members of the crew.
"Thank you, Commander," Piper smiled and stepped off the transporter pad,
extending her hand as she did so. "Lieutenant Commander Piper Chayton," she
announced herself.
He took her hand and gave it a good strong warm shake. "Pleasure meeting you. I
have heard a lot about you," he said smiling and releasing her hand.
Llew followed suit but she was more curious as to why the XO was meeting them,
and why he was not alone. "Lieutenant Llewellyn Moreau," she introduced
herself.
The XO turned to his new COMMO. "Good to have you onboard, Lieutenant. I am
afraid you'll have to settle in later. We need you on the bridge," he said.
"Perfect, sir," Llew smiled brightly. "I hate unpacking," she admitted. "So
I'm all yours, Commander."
The XO grinned. "I'll take you to the bridge. We can talk on the way," he said.
"I'll take you to the Captain, LCDR Chayton," said the energetic Ensign
Ferweiler.
"Lead on, Ensign," Piper smiled at Ferweiler and motioned for her to lead the
way.
