Title: PERSONAL LOG: STARDATE 200612.28
Location: USS Eagle
Setting: Captain's Ready Room
Chronology: After a short time on the bridge following "Decisions, Part Six"
Commander Valentina Ivanova Tereshkova Tsiolkovsky, Acting Captain and Chief
Engineer, types notes to herself before returning to the bridge.
I have just returned from the bridge and visiting the Captain to catch up
on some work here. It will be hard to keep up my personal entries. This may
be my last for a while. I am wearing myself too thin and cannot keep up the
pace. Something must go and it is likely to be these logs. I now know
how Nouri felt when he first took over as Acting XO and Acting Captain all
with an Engineering Department to run.
The ship's condition has improved
but we are still missing many parts to finish our repairs properly. We need
to pull into a shipyard or Starbase for repairs and parts but we are forbidden
by the parameters of our mission to do so.
The XO cannot be found. Witnesses put him in the passageway before the Orions
came. They think he may have engaged the Orions in a firefight but they are
unsure. A report by a medical team sent to check for remains is inconclusive.
They say he may have been killed in the passageway but they cannot be certain.
Lahrs, of course, wants to send a team to rescue the XO. Although it is a
noble sentiment, we cannot act on false hope and such sentiments no matter
how much we want to do such things. Our orders are to proceed to the rendezvous
and that is what we will do. If the Orions have the XO alive, they should
have sent us a ransom message by now. He'd be good for them to use to bargain
with and to interrogate for the destination coordinates. Regardless I can
neither afford the time and the personnel, nor risk them to look for a man
who is most likely dead."
She pauses for a moment to reflect on Jim, then continues.
"Were I to divert
us from our course and schedule, I would have done so
already to get the Captain to a Starbase for medical treatment. Then perhaps
the XO would still be alive and "
Valentina stops typing for a moment to blow her nose and wipe her tears.
She finishes the water in her glass and resumes her task.
"The Captain's situation is grave. He is not expected to live much longer.
He was moved from Sickbay to his quarters for his final hours. I have had
serious doubts about odd events with Yeoman Tsundra and the dismissing of
Yeoman Perksandra who very recently became his personal yeoman with the urging
of the XO. These doubts however are relieved and assuaged. I don't know that
I trust Tsundra yet but I do trust that she has Nouristao's best interests
at heart.
Yeoman Tsundra gave me an information disk that she said the Captain had
wanted Lahrs and myself to listen to in the event that something happened
to both him and Jim, that would put me as Acting Captain and Lahrs as Acting
XO. Lahrs and I plan to listen to it soon. I do not know what it says
and am most curious.
I must return to the bridge
shortly and resume duties there. I am hoping that the Vulcans will be recovered
soon from the unfortunate events in the anomaly that harmed every person
with Vulcan ancestry on board. I would like very much to stay on the bridge
and have Lieutenants, S'Trom and T'khana take on the role of Acting Chief
Engineer. I don't like that I am forced by circumstances to give the conn
to Lahrs. Although he has proved himself from his rocky start here to be
a fine CSEC, I'd prefer the conn to be in the hands of someone who
was more rule and reg oriented.

END LOG "
She hits save and heads back towards the bridge.
((OOC NOTE: Hanson and Leah are not the only ones with a personality/work conflict at this time in the storyline of the game. The
CENG and CSEC are having theirs as well. Lahrs feels she is too rigid and
formal and Val feels he is too lax. These are among their many differences
and different perceptions of each other that are creating conflict between
them. ))
