STAR TREK SIM / STAR TREK RPG : THE USS EAGLE
TRAILER: THE EYE OF EVIL

The USS Eagle was on a high priority intelligence mission when...

The Empress of All Galadon

Title: The Eye of Evil
Setting:  Imperial Dressing Room
Location: Imperial Palace, Imperial City, Galadon Twelve

Dawn has barely broken through the clouds over the Imperial Palace of Galadon. The Empress of All Galadon sits in a chair near an open window in the Imperial Dressing Room. The cold sea air brushes her face. She is tired but alert. While one of her attendants comb her hair to perfection, she is being briefed by her advisors for an important meeting. Her staff of about twenty buzzes around almost as busy as the computers humming around her and the woman combing her long, thick, black hair.

Outside the Dressing Room a tall Galadonese man in a smart, dark blue uniform speaks with the guards. He is granted permission to enter and does so, bowing deeply to pay his respect to his Sovereign. As he bows, he brings his open right hand to cover his heart making a fist over it, as is the Galadonese custom. Then he opens the fist towards her in a grand sweeping gesture to symbolize the gift of his heart, his devotion to her.

"Empress! Reports on the Federation vessels are in," LT Gheorgkh reports.  The young, dark haired man hands the Empress a secured document cylinder and stands at attention awaiting her orders.

She turns to her staff and says politely, "You are dismissed " The palace staff and others leave immediately.

The Empress takes the cylinder and inserts it into her reader. Her strong and steady hands fly over the keyboard activating the password and decryption programs. The machine hums and comes to life and displays the main screen with options. She wonders what the importance of this is and looks up at the lieutenant, her deep blue eyes questioning him.

The young officer who has been silent and still stands at attention, speaks in a low and serious voice.

"Your highness, I bring news of the Federation fleet movements. One of the Earth vessels you wanted monitored has been lost."

"Which one?" she queries.

"A small science vessel, the USS Eagle," he replies.

"What transpired?" she asks, her voice showing nothing more than detached curiosity as she searched for the information her hands again flying over the keyboard with renewed purpose. She sees ..A small Oberth vessel disappearing into the wormhole ( Please back click to return here.)

"It entered the Graveyard of the Accursed (the anomaly) and was lost ... Lost in the Klahdesheen Binehtihreht (which translates roughly into Federation Standard as 'The Eye of Evil')", he answers, clearly spooked by the wormhole and uttering its name. (The Klahdesheen Binehtihreht dates back to ancient times when the Galadons first began exploring space and had to develop technology to avoid and track the mobile anomaly. This wormhole and the aliens present in it destroyed many ships of their highly telepathic race. )

"Which of our vessels or operatives is the closest?" she asks.

"Unknown... I should know.. I apologize. I should not have come here without it..." he replies upset with himself for not anticipating an obvious question.

The Empress brings her right hand up, knocking over a glass of water near the monitor of her reader. The glass shatters on the cold stone floor and spills its contents. The jagged razor like shards stare back at the Empress with reflected light like many waiting knives.

"Leave now," the Empress says neutrally waving the young lieutenant away, seemingly oblivious to the fallen glass and its meaning. "I will summon you shortly after I review this document and you have obtained the requested information."

LT Gheorgkh, gives his obeisance to her, turns smartly on his heels and leaves.  The large ornate door shuts behind him with a series of clicks and beeps, indicating that the vast room was locked for her protection.

With everyone gone now, the Empress lets out a breath and shows her true emotions. She puts her head in her hands and tears well up in her eyes. She tries to reach out with her mind far away as she has been able to do with some of her top people. It was in vain she knew, but she tried to reach out to someone that was special to her and rekindle a bond she once shared - a bond to an alien man, the Captain of the lost vessel, that she told not so long ago that she did not love.

She lied.
