How to Play an AENG (Assistant Engineering Officer)

STAR TREK SIM ENGINEERS'S GUIDE TO SHIP'S SYSTEMS, DIAGNOSTICS AND REPAIRS

"Adventures of the USS Eagle", our Star Trek sim game, is in need of people to play engineers. Please click on the link below to join or send a message requesting more information. Experience is most welcome but none is necessary.

Playing an AENG, Assistant Engineering Officer, or a CENG, Chief Engineering Officer, is both fun and rewarding.

There are a few basics that everyone should know who plays an engineer.

You can break the process down into four steps:
1. Examine
2. Diagnose
3. Repair
4. Recommendations

Depending on the people you play with, it can be considered important or a sign of a good Star Trek engineer if you throw in a few words (or pages) of  tech babble at every step listed above. Links are provided below to help you find real world science techbabble, specialized trekbabble and other  methods to be creative and invent your very own techbabble.

1. Examine
a. Visually inspect and scan
b. Run Diagnostics
c. Ask others what happened, if applicable
d. Check for environmental and system related clues
e. Look up tech and trek babble

The first thing you must do is scan and run diagnostics.  Diagnostics are programs that check out parts of a system.

Simmers could then IM the person running the scene or their department head to learn what it means or what to do if they had the need. The same scene can be run for the different levels of experience. On the USS Eagle we try to match these up with each simmer's level of experiences and interests. In this manner beginning and advanced players can sim together.

The amount of detail you give in looking will  help you get more detail for playing the part.

If there is something covering what you might need to work on or that can interfere with scans or diagnostics and you do not remove it, you may not learn information necessary to repair it.
1a.Scans

There are no shortage of scans in Star Trek, real life or your imagination that you could use as an AENG or CENG Here are a few:
